- Refitting
the Round Hole for the Square Peg
The presentation
concludes with an in depth look at what teachers
and other child professionals can do to help children cope with violence.
Most teachers are given educational skills to deal with "average" children.
Their qualifications make them great teachers for 25 of their students.
Unfortunately, there are always three or four students per class that
do not fit the "mold."
This presentation
identifies the warning signs to look for in children suffering from
family violence and suggests behavior modification, communication and
coping techniques that would work best for these children to succeed.
Teachers
are the second most significant adult in children's lives and
often they are the only positive adult role-model they have. When children
are suffering from violence at home, teachers with the proper skills
can intercept and change violent behavior at school. Children who survive
violent homes and become successful will often say that they attribute
their accomplishments to one person who cared. This presentation gives
those adults who care the proper tools to make a difference.
